Foreign Investors Will Not Bail Us Out - We Need To Act Now To Save Florida's Real Estate Industry
    by Manuel Iraola

We need to ACT now if we want our State to continue to enjoy the enviable position it has enjoyed with foreign investors. More importantly, we need to protect our retirees, our empty nesters and our young people looking to fulfill their dream of owning a home. We have been through these difficult times during the decades of the 70s, 80, and 90s. Not surprisingly, we survived and we also prospered. And this time it will not be any different.

However, in order to avoid a major crash, those that were put in Office under lofty promises have to step up to the plate and deliver. It is our individual responsibility to hold them accountable. If we do not, we will be the only ones to blame. This is not the time to preach doom and gloom. It is not the time to point fingers. It is not the time for complacency. It is the time to learn from the past and to act.

We should stop searching for the magic pill to the problem and go about the hard work of fixing what we see is broken. Among others:

    (1) When are we going to start addressing the problems?

    (2) Where is the real estate tax relief that we were promised was imminent?

    (3) Where is the insurance relief?

    (4) Why do construction permits continue to be granted when there is an obvious saturation?

    (5) How about special interest zoning changes?

    (6) What are we doing to create high paying jobs and industries to absorb the over supply?

    (7) Why do we continue to provide financing to those that obviously cannot afford it?

It is time to raise our voices and regulate the regulators. They need our votes! The tune has changed. Those that told us a few months ago nothing was going to happen are the ones telling you now that the sky is falling.

What a surprise! They could not smell the blood before but now they can as thousands of residents face the daunting process of foreclosure or selling at distressed prices. They can no longer ignore the obvious but it finally became impossible to select rose colored market indicators. We should stop this nonsense. Let your voice be heard! Remember, they need our VOTES!
